ROAM in style

Designers were assigned to create a magazine focused on a topic that interested them. For me, I love all things fashion and travel. So I came up with a “guide” for readers. Each edition of the magazine focuses on a new tourist destination and gives a local point of view. When traveling tourists often stick out like a sore thumb but when I travel I love to fit in like a local, thus this is what the magazine focuses on. It is a play on the saying “Why fit in when you can stand out” but rather the spin “Why stand out when you can fit in”. Each section of the magazine focuses on different parts of travel, they are titled “WHAT, WEAR, WHERE”. What to plan for, what to wear, and where to go. This project was supposed to challenge designers on typography and layout skills. I was adequately challenged during this project but had a lot of fun playing with a topic I deeply love.

Challenge

Designers were tasked with creating a full magazine
on a topic of personal interest, including one complete issue and two additional cover designs. The focus of
the project was to push boundaries in typography and layout while exploring a meaningful subject,
providing an opportunity for creative expression through editorial design.

Solution

For my project, I chose to combine my passion for fashion and travel to create a unique travel magazine. The concept revolves around providing readers with a “local’s guide” to different tourist destinations, allowing travelers to fit in rather than stand out. The magazine offers advice on “WHAT, WEAR, WHERE” – what to plan for, what to wear, and where to go. Each edition highlights a new destination, offering an insider perspective on how to blend into local culture. The challenge of working with typography and layout was met through the creation of a clean, engaging design, and I found the process deeply rewarding while staying true to a subject I love.
